Alfredo Lopes (Leader/Composer/Saxophone)
A Portuguese-Australian saxophonist, composer, and educator with deep roots in 1960s post-bop and free jazz. Educated at the Sydney Conservatorium, Alfredo holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts and has contributed significantly to jazz research and performance. He has studied under major jazz figures and performed internationally. His compositions reflect a blend of stylistic influences, emphasizing creativity, process, and improvisation.
Mike Kenny (Trumpet)
A seasoned trumpet player and composer, Mike has been a prominent figure in Australian jazz since the early '90s. He founded the ensemble Selah, releasing multiple albums and touring internationally. He continues to lead and innovate with new projects like Mike Kenny’s Lab Band.
Matt McMahon (Piano)
An award-winning pianist and composer, Matt leads the Matt McMahon Trio and co-leads Band of Five Names. He has collaborated widely across the Australian and international jazz scenes and released critically acclaimed albums such as Paths and Streams and Ellipsis.
Lloyd Swanton (Double Bass)
A prolific bassist and composer, Lloyd co-founded the iconic trio The Necks and leads The Catholics. He has worked with a wide range of artists and ensembles, composed for film, and explores jazz’s intersections with other genres on his radio show Mixed Marriage.
Troy Lever (Drums)
A dedicated drummer and educator, Troy has been a longtime participant in Sydney’s jazz scene. After a hiatus, he returns with renewed inspiration to collaborate with familiar peers in this dynamic ensemble.
